My Megane was seriously outclassed in the most recent race. I think part of it was that the car had less than 5 laps on it and running the motor and geartrain in will improve speed and handling.
I think traction was a significant issue. The NSRs just didn't bite like the PPRs. For running at home I really prefer rubber tires - I think they are much more fun to drive. For me the silicones and urethanes give too much grip and make the cars corner unrealistically (too much like magnets). When racing rubber against silicones, the rubber tires just can't match up.
So my first question is which Supertires fit the Ninco rims? I have a choice of either 17mm or 18mm rims - the 18's are on now. There is no listing on the Supertire chart for these rims.
I know some of you are using a Slot.it geartrain, with I would guess Slot.it axles, bushings and wheels. These are listed on the Supertire chart.
As for motors, I ran an NC6 that was not run in properly. I think Jim also used Ninco power, which seemed to work well for him (despite some shoddy marshalling). But I believe he was running at 14 volts. In my experience, Ninco motors suffer as the voltage goes down. I saw several Slot.it Flat 6's which looked very quick and likely will hold their speed at 12 volts. Any suggestions?
Finally, gear ratio depends some on the track, but also,, I think, a lot on driving style. I was running Ninco gears (silver, 12/32 - 2.67). Ninco also has blue 11/33-3.00 and red 3/31 - 2.38 choices. I'm not sure if Ninco's pinions and crowns are mix and match I believe that the recommendation is to use specific pinions with specific crowns. Slot.it anglewinder gears can run from 2.15 to 3.60, so are capable of much shorter (I think) gear ratios.
Any thoughts anyone might be willing to share on these tuning questions?
