Questions. Are Autoart 1/24s competitive with Carrera 1/24s at the same voltage? Carreras run at 18 volts. Who makes the Aston dbr9? Comments. I have most of the Carrera (no prototype) classes and a BRM. So the classes will be limited to those. I think Mike has an autoart gt 40. So he can bring that and we can test if it's competitive with the Carreras. If anyone has an autoart 1/24, I'd like to see how they run. Especially the Mustang. I say everybody just bring their 1/24s and we'll see what we have in common and run those. Or we can even do an IROC series. Pure driving competition. Either way we run the 1/24s box stock only. It keeps it simple and as cheap as possible.

Good questions Joe. My experience is that the Autoart cars will blow the doors off Carrera in a straight line contest. In fact it's not even close regardless of voltage. Where I think the Carrera cars may have a chance against an Autoart car like the GT-40 is traction and brakes. Autoart cars have no brakes in both the 1/32nd and 1/24th versions. Also all the Autoart cars I have had came with extremely hard tires making traction almost non existent around turns. We can run them together and see how close they are in lap times I suppose.
And I second the question about the DBR9, who and where?

Joe, I run my Carrera cars at 15 volts - at that voltage the Auto Art Mustang runs OK too. I think 18 might be too much for the Auto Art, but am not sure. I have another power supply that will go to 18 volts (30 actually), but my cars run fine at 15 on my track so I've never switched over. Maybe also saves burning out lights and such.
The Aston Martin hasn't been released yet by Carrera, but I've seen it on pre-order. Also Carrera is going to release a couple 1966-67 Ford GT40 MkIIs this coming year along with a bunch of Vettes. Hotslots, for one, has them listed.
The GT40's from AutoArt are the modern ones.
The reason I thought it might be a good idea to specify classes is to know ahead of time what you will be racing so you can just tune up a couple cars at a time.
If we're going to do IROC (which is fine by me) let me know ahead of time so I won't bother with tuning cars and loading up all my stuff.
I totally agree about box stock - cheaper and just as much fun. You can still tune box stock to get the most out of them.

Unimog, do you run on a track that is copper? Carrera 1/24s are supposed to be run at 18 volts and I can't imagine running them at anything less, too slow!!! As for the classes, I am leaning toward the Carrera modern gts, BRMs, and what I'd really like to run is the 60's sports cars (250 swbs, 250 gtos, vettes, grand sports and maybe the porsche carreras, if they are competitve). I know the Porsches are prototypes but they don't compete well with the Ferrari 330s so they might fit in this class. I don't think evrybody has these cars yet so it's just a wish list class, although I do have a few loaners. Who has alms prototypes?? If everybody does and want to run them I could get one. Erick do you have one? I bet they would look good speeding down the Mulsant Straight at Le Maes. Of course I can never exclude hotrods!!! They could be an IROC class if not everybody has one.
Just some of my thoughts about classes. Anybody have any preferences?? Since their aren't a lot of us we should be able to do several different ones.

LMP's: I have one Audi and one Porsche, both fairly new (analog). Daryl has an earlier one as well.

Yes Joe, copper-taped Carrera track. It's a fairly small track, so flat out speed isn't as necessary, but a regulated power supply at 15 volts seems good to me - at 12 volts they are dogs.
I agree with mike about the braking on Autoart cars - miserable. Though Carrera cars don't have the best braking either. I do like what Autoart has done with the Mustang GT cars.
Reed, I have two of the older Carrera LMPs (Audi R8 and BMW) but not the new ones, so don't know how they would run against each other.
Joe, I agree about the older sports cars. I'll probably have the 250 GTO by the 13th, but I already have a few of the 250 SWBs. Really cool cars.

I should be able to make the 13th, just need to double check with my wife, but I don't see any problems.

How about LMP's, BRM's, Hot Rods and GT?

They all sound good to me. I have an LMP on the way so I have all the Carrera classes. I also have a BRM that I have yet to race so that sounds good too. I'm open for anything 1/24.

"How about LMP's, BRM's, Hot Rods and GT?"
Works for me except how about let's split the GT into two separate classes - Modern GT (Ferrari 575, Corvette C6R) and "60's sports cars (250 swbs, 250 gtos, vettes, grand sports and maybe the porsche carreras, if they are competitve)." I'll bring an AA Mustang just to see if it will run with the 575's and C6R's, but I'll bet it will need a lower voltage (do you have a variable power supply Joe)?
That would be five races - which would certainly fill an evening.
It would be helpful for me to know ahead of time which classes we will actually run so that I can just spend time tuning up those cars (e.g. lubing and cleaning tires) and only put them in my car box. I have a hell of a lot of different 1/24 cars - some I doubt anyone else has. I'd rather not work on and bring a bunch that we won't race.

Sounds good to me. The only problem I see is that not everybody has the 60s sports cars but we could always do IROC. The only Carrera class not represented is the 330s. We could do them the next time at Reed's house. Right Reed? Joe

Joe, I have four SWBs and two 62' Vettes I could bring so everybody could have a 60's car to run. IROC is OK, but I'd prefer running some of my own cars.
Just ordered a BRM IMSA body (unpainted). I hope they fit on the earlier 962 chassis/interiors.
Is SlotBlazer350 (or something close to that) one of our group? I read a post on SCI about fitting a BRM motor ($10) into a 1/24 Carrera motor mount. I'd like to know more detail about that. I'm assuming better brakes and, of course, running on less voltage. I mounted a slot.it boxer into an earlier Carrera (Panoz), but it was a bit of a challenge, and didn't improve running all that much.

I'll do my best to have something we can race on at my house in a few months, guys.
I have two Ferrari 330's if we want to do a group of those as well.

Joe, assuming the 1/24 race on the 13th is still on, I'll need directions to your house and a reminder about what time to be there.
Thanks.
